After a week of planning and exploring the different acting choices for the audio line I finished the first pass of blocking. Just the main key poses (story telling keys) and some ideas for the eyes and the jar animation (which will be a puppet mouth for this class).
I followed the advice from my mentor and tried a different workflow approach this time. While working in Stepped for all the other assignments I did the blocking in Copied Pairs this time. This should help in timing the shot and get an idea of how the transitions will look like after going to splines – and minimize the shock when looking at the graph editor after doing so.

Click the images to see how blocking in stepped and pairs looks in the graph editor. With copied pairs the key poses are being duplicated and maya gets 3 to 4 frames for doing the transition in linear tangents.
I’m a little nervous because I have no idea how this workflow will affect my work in progress but I have to give it a try.
